I teach (writing- and reading-intensive) a lot, and that eats up so much brainpower. In ON WRITING Stephen King mentions how being a HS English teacher when he was young before CARRIE was published just ate up so much of his energy, a bit that resonated deeply with me.

Writing is my craft, but right now it's not a job. But also, I am allowed to dislike doing things. The last 1/4 of THE HOWL OF THE EARTH and final passes were a fucking slog (that was, to be fair, partially my fault).

So, this made me skim his Wiki and goddamn. I had forgotten how ridiculous his initial stretch of published works were beginning with Carrie.
