As always, someone always has to say this. I blocked them (theyāre already on a bunch of lists), but this is your reminder that our care is also rationed. Heavily. No, I cannot get a same day appointment with my doctor.
What the heck do people think markets do or are for? They're for rationing! It's what they do!

I had a consult for surgery in October. I'm getting it on Tuesday. My nibling needs to see an ENT because he's had strep 3 times in the last 1.5 months. The closest appointment he could get is November.
What fing world does that person live in? I had CANCER. I did not get a same day appointment. I found the lump in october, got results in december, started treatment in january. Same day? In what F ing world? No.
My mum, at 78 years old, was admitted for a catheterization to put a stent on, was told that it wasn't enough, got hospitalized and monitored and one week later she had a triple bypass heart surgery. All of that without paying a single euro. I can't thank Spanish universal healthcare enough.
I tried to get my kids back w/the same doctors they had had before COVID & Lurie Children's told us they would need to be put on the new patient waitlist. Which was 2 years long. Since my son was 16, he would age out before he got an appt, so no wait list for him! After 18 months, they said no.
The first available appointment with a neurologist for a new patient in my area is next year.
People who cite ārationed careā have never had to fight with insurance companies each and every fucking year for a routine medication for a chronic disease.
Canada here. Yes, sometimes we do wait hours in the waiting room. My husband also got his needed shoulder surgery inside 48h. He was only delayed cause of a huge car crash. It cost us only $8 for parking.
Iām in Canada. My wife has recently needed an MRI, lots of blood testing, a liver scan, day surgery, and follow-ups. Every step has been available within a monthāin fact, we said no to multiple surgery dates because they were TOO fast for us. Our urban area matters, ofc, but still! Itās good here!
