This. I personally believe that having a large number of neurodivergent friends should be considered strong evidence that you, yourself are neurodivergent.
My university students: Maybe the reason you can *see* us is because you're kind of one of us? Me: No! I'm the normal one in my family. I told you, *they're* all ND. Them: Maybe you're normal for your family, but ... 😂
I tell people I’ve been diagnosed adhd by peer review. 😆 “MUPPET WHAT DO YOU *MEAN* YOU HAVENT BEEN EVALUATED, HAVE YOU MET YOU?”
We’re out on the patio away from the crush and loudness.
Also if you are on the couch at the therapist getting your second child diagnosed to help with things no one ever helped you with and one of the questions is “Did she ever complain about scratchy tags and uncomfortable clothes?” And you say “Why would I have bought her uncomfortable clothes?”
Ten years ago, all my friends were neurotypical. I still have the same friends, mostly, but none of them are anymore. It's been like watching dominos fall.
Diagnosis by peer review is valid and important
Having a large number of ANY KIND of friends is strong evidence that you are NOT neurodivergent.
