I am sure all the mountain folks are grateful to be checked on, when they have the time and connection to respond. Many may not be able to yet, but I've heard numerous versions of "it turns out they were okay, much of the cell network was wrecked so we didn't hear for a while"
Yep. Heard the same from the pulpit today... and it seems to me this is how Christianity is supposed to work. I appreciate you (plural and singular, both).
Anyway, right now the people who do this are still shocking and few, and I just can't, y'all. I hope they figure it out. I'm in NC but not in the storm's wake. The folks I know up there are mostly okay. I'm sure we'd all appreciate charitable donations, prayers, good wishes. Long road to rebuild.
I still think it's a minority, and I still believe most human beings react to other human beings with empathy when it comes right to it. What little I hear from inside the isolated and destroyed places tracks with that. It's a very few who have chosen to be monsters online, but they still shock me
Far as I can tell, these are mostly coming from loud/proud liberals up north somewhere who have a vague notion that there are bigots in the South and much of NC's government is Republicans. But it's easier to be judgey from your armchair than it is to donate or help or even offer basic human empathy
I can't even decide where to start at taking these apart. Blaming people individually and severally for literally the weather? Blaming individuals for a political structure many don't like and mostly don't have the power to change? Blaming the poor who couldn't even leave?
Repeatedly I'm seeing "it serves NC right" takes. If you're about to post one of those, I cordially invite you to bust up your modem with a hammer & eat it. Real people are dead, real people lost everything. You know nothing about them to judge. Consider your own repentance, then shut yr pie hole
