That nails it. I was finding BPRD tough going anyway, but that final volume was just… meeehhh. And of course, it continues anyway with a billion spin-offs. Honestly, I much preferred the Mignolaverse when it was a bit more focused. When it started to become exhausting to follow, I lost interest.

What I loved about Hellboy when I first read it was that it was weird and different, but also self-contained. Now, it feels a lot more like Marvel. “Oh, didn’t you see the frame on p18 of Spin Off #6356? That explains everything!”  Nope.
