History will remember them as āœØšŸŒˆ roommates šŸŒˆāœØ THE GHOSTKEEPER, out now: www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/706474...

Two Victorian boys gaze longingly at each other while the oven heats up ambiently in the background
Dorian: "Oh. H-Hello."
Brody: "Hiya. Step in a puddle, did we?"
Dorian: "I fell into the Brambles Bog chasing a ghost."
Brody: "Ah, that'll do it."
Brody platonically* draping a blanket over Dorian who fell asleep at a table while studying.

Yeah, Iā€™ve taken a lot more formal Russian than my partner, but I always said his grocery store Russian was much better than mine since he did most of the shopping and also looked up specific words for that in advance and then went and used them.

This is part of why the idea of ā€œfluencyā€ in a second language isnā€™t necessarily usefulā€”at one point my Russian was very good for what I needed it for (research, shopping, watching TV), but I still needed a dictionary for Tolstoy because I was never traveling by carriage or wearing 19th clothes.

It reminds me of how I know ardent horror fans who have anxiety, and I can read plenty of horror if it doesnā€™t touch much on my particular CPTSD triggers, and can find it helpful for thinking about my own trauma recovery.

The honor is mine! Your writing in particular was a part of my entry into how to think about disability in community and do it critically and well, and Iā€™m glad to have the chance to support your work and say so now.

One of the most productive comparisons between Nazi Germany and Stalinā€™s USSR is that both fostered these kinds of cultures of denunciation. Itā€™s back again in Russia because of the war. Its resurgence here haunts me and every historian I know.

Yeah, to prove your point even more, I am usually only interested in author blurbs if I also know their taste well because they do a lot of book talk online (like, Sarah Maclean blurbs are useful because I listen to Fated Mates).

A while ago I mentioned on here that I had an accessible piece on 'woke' that does an excellent job with the history and cultural origins - people asked me for the link and then I totally forgot until right now because that's how my brain works. Here you go! (Source: NAACP Legal Defense Fund)
