"In 1976, about 40 percent of high-school seniors said they had read at least six books for fun in the previous year, compared with 11.5 percent who hadn’t read any. By 2022, those percentages had flipped." www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

To read a book in college, it helps to have read a book in high school.

“Roughly 90 percent of women who marry adopt their husband’s last name. Roughly 90 percent of married female voters have different name on their ID than on their birth certificate. 34 percent of women could be turned away from polls unless they have precisely the right documents.” FUCK THESE FUCKS.

How the Republican War on Women Extends to Voting Rights

Most women vote Democratic. And most still change their name when they marry. And that’s where the GOP sees an Achilles’ heel.

🧪 Second-gen Starlink satellites leak 30x more radio interference and threaten astronomical observations, Dutch radioastronomer Cees Bassa writes. Apparently the Starlink redesign to minimise emissions didn't quite work out. They're 10 million times brighter than the faintest radio sources:

Second-Generation Starlink Satellites Leak 30 Times More Radio Interference, Threatening Astronomical Observations | ASTRON

Observations with the LOFAR (Low Frequency Array) radio telescope last year showed that first generation Starlink satellites emit unintended radio waves that can hinder astronomical observations.

“Around 83% of NASA's facilities are beyond their design lifetimes, and the agency has $3.3B maintenance backlog. NASA's $250M estimate for normal yr-to-yr maintenance would take a $600M uptick in NASA's annual budget for infrastructure repairs to catch up on the backlog within the next 10 years.”

Ran across another friend who didn't get Paxlovid bc it was hundreds of dollars so here's this link again. You have to have a prescription to enroll and will need to educate the pharmacist but it works. No one should pay hundreds of dollars for Paxlovid! Privatization sucks! wapo.st/47hF7aO

Opinion | Here’s how to get free Paxlovid as many times as you need it

There’s a terrific new program for free Paxlovid, but many people don’t know about it.
