There are definitely big problems with the medicalization of labor, including those you describe here! I’m sorry that happened to you. I just worry that things like shaming women for taking anesthesia reflects some misogynist ideas about how good mothers suffer.
This drove me nuts when I was pregnant. Yes, women have been doing this for eons but also pregnancy was a leading cause of death among women for those same eons.
