Marx šŸ¤šŸ¼ Braverman šŸ¤šŸ¼ Me ā€œThe chemical industry is the myth-making industry par excellence.ā€ You cannot understand automation w/o chemistry (and biology as industries) and my lifeā€™s work will explain why that is.

Page 204 of Bravermanā€™s Labor and Monopoly Capital. ā€œThe picture of mechanization and skill cannot be completed without reference to those industries where mechanization has made the process so automatic that the worker takes virtually no physical part in it whatsoever. This theoretical ideal can be but seldom realized, and most plants considered "automatic" still require a great deal of direct labor of all sorts. But in the chemical industry it very often comes closer to realization than elsewhere, because of the nature of the continuous processes employed and the possibility of moving the entire product-in-preparat..ā€

Any tips on how to maintain it as a habit? I also found helpful, but after a while, I cannot maintain it

The machine ideology never left! It just became common sense!

I genuinely believe we need to talk about telos/teleology, but in a much more sophisticated way than before. Mutlicasual determination of a variety of mechanisms is nothing short of an ill social organism that we are all trapped in! (I am not happy with my phrasings, but I hope you get the idea)

I also recommend it. It is imo the real sleeper hit from last yearā€™s slew of good books of Marxist theorizing. Itā€™s a truly generative book despite some misgivings here and there!

I can see this child practicing her handwriting, can imagine the books she used. How are we still going on?
