all this on a Hetzner machine that cost half as much as @bnewbold.net@futur.beesky.social alerting me to this deal. given that Hetzner now charges per hour even for dedicated servers this whole thing cost me less than 3 euros so far, not too bad
setting up a new relay + backfilling it is possible in a single day!! added the four new recent PDSes & it caught up & churning along /data is 691 GB, PSQL DBs are 439 GB, the system is chill (tho it has no consumers connected to it. yet) also somehow i have 80k more users than @jaz.bsky.social?
19 hrs later my Pet Relay's been churning along, indexed and backfilled 1.77 users and counting. The Data partition 603 GB, my PSQL DB is 377 GB, the main bottleneck is IO, though 128 GB RAM certainly helps. Tweaked bigsky/PSQL settings a few times. Time to backfill the PDSes!
all connected, and currently crawling all official and personal PDSes ✅ (didn't need to add the top bsky.social but oh well, no harm no foul there) time to sleep and let it do its thing...
