I know people will be angry but I wrote this in the immediate aftermath of Oct 7 and I couldn't just sit with it. newlinesmag.com/first-person...
A Palestinian scholar describes the whiplash of learning about the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks while visiting the Jewish Museum of Berlin, and reflects on moral juxtapositions and worlds overturned
Thank you, I appreciate people taking the time and consideration to get that more than one thing can be true: that antisemitism has been a serious problem for centuries and still is AND Palestinians have been grossly abused by the modern state of Israel (and the West) since its founding.
Thank you for sharing, Dana. This is a powerful reflection.
Wanted to say I appreciate you both writing and sharing this beautiful piece. No shame in having raw emotion over these events.
This is haunting and speaks to a deep profound truth. "The world had still not learned that the only way to guarantee safety was to understand safety is relational." Thank you for reminding me and the courage to publish it
This is powerful and deeply moving. I’m so sorry for your anguish.
Thank you for writing and sharing this ❤️
Sober and empathetic. I often think about what I miss most about home: not having to feel apologetic about my presence + not being in the minority (though, ironically, we are). I understand the need for Israel as an insurance, but I can never make sense of why it has to be at the expense of others.
Thanks for writing and sharing. Incredibly sad times.
This was so so moving Dana. Thank you for sharing it
Comnplexity and empathy are super irritating to those who prefer simple stories and "Star Wars"- like moral simplicity.
