'Freedom of speech' is a blunt cudgel used by propagandists to propagate hate speech & incitement to violence, disorder & ethnic cleansing. It's hypocritical of anyone to cry 'freedom of speech' & at the same time support (at least not decry) Putin's Russia where a blank sheet gets one arrested.
Freedom of speech, is not freedom of hate, freedom of incitement, freedom of disinfo. The freedom to not be subjected to those latter is a freedom that should be observed.
Leaving Brexit aside, I trust everyone is not just counting the cost of the war now, but weighing up the harm that Russia can & will keep doing to the EU & democracy in general if it succeeds in Ukraine. I will continue to strongly argue that Europe can't afford Ukraine to lose against Russia.
Ukrainians know very well, war with Russia is better, & safer, than being run by Russia. Holodomor for 1 example.
It costs billions to support Ukraine, the cost will be trillions & many more lives if invading your neighbours to loot them, becomes the norm globally. Quite aside from Russia's active hybrid war with the west for decades needs to be recognised for what it is and firmly addressed.
