I’m still deeply disappointed that Taningia didn’t make it out of the starters. What’s not to love about those big beautiful photophores?!?

Taningia danae: the deep sea hooked squid. It’s a rocket-ship-shaped dark red squid, with its tentacles held together and pointed and its fins flaring. At the end of the tentacles are huge neon green-yellow glowing lights

First we lost the Neon Flying Squid. Despite its winglike fins, super-shiny belly, and mini-elephant babies, Ommastrephes just couldn't hold its own against the Strawberry Squid. Congratulations, Histioteuthis, the cock-eyed strawberry squid!
