I just can't accept that the Barrett Redrow merger has been permitted. Competition aside, the political capital in the boardroom will be extraordinary. Big builders are always pushing for a better climate for SME developers - dog eat dog? Or stewardship of the market? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The housebuilding giants' plan gets the go-ahead after a competition probe into two homes projects.
Optics are just as powerful as policy when rebooting relations. Commitment to the job even when there's not enough to talk about.
HS2 must go to Euston (and Manchester/Leeds). Failure to connect Old Oak to central London would be a failure to deliver the principle goal of HS2: connectivity. That said, connecting to St Pancras feels unnecessary imo. www.standard.co.uk/comment/high...
Could there be light at the end of the tunnel for HS2? Reports swirling around suggest that the Government is set to give the green signal for the project to terminate at Euston Station rather than sl...
Bit of personal news... 🚨 After nearly 18 months in PR I'm thrilled to be joining Centre for London as a researcher, supporting its unique study and advocacy for London's places, people, and prosperity. Hugely grateful for this opportunity and super excited to get started! ❤️
As expected. But Rayner vocally announcing she will not be calling Wimbledon in is a BIG signal to London planning. M&S Oxford Street, Liverpool Street Station, Euston, Truman Brewery, Lower Thames Crossing... there's some very big flashpoints in on the horizon. www.theguardian.com/sport/2024/s...
London’s deputy mayor for planning has granted the AELTC permission to build 39 courts on Wimbledon Park despite residents objections
Lots of people across the Labour spectrum being frustrated with the party's dull conference. It's going to take time to acclimatise to the new reality: Labour in government isn't the same as in opposition. This doesn't mean ambition and principles die, but they're tempered by the harshness of power
Nearly three months of having a Labour government and there's still widespread spell mistakes in media and copy for Keir, Rayner and Miliband. My subeditor senses are in overdrive.
For one it would be breaching parliamentary protocol to announce legislation, policies or anything of substance without the Commons hearing it first. This didn't stop the Tories of course but if it's going to be knockout policy, it'd be more effective to announce where the action is happening.
Half of my Bluesky feed is perfectly nerdy policy and discussion. The other half is griping about Twitter and how bad it is. More nerdy please!
Rachel Reeves sounding decidedly more chipper today. Headlines have steered more into the 'change' vision over backlash to donations. It'll need Reeves and Starmer to maintain this vibe for Labour to walk away with a renewed mission for government.
