Sadly can't come this time but I highly recommend this. Also, if you have time, read Lev's brilliant book Light Rains Sometimes Fall to familiarise yourself with the place.
London types might want to join me as I walk round West Norwood cemetery looking at birds on Saturday morning. Here’s how it works: – walk round cemetery – see or hear a bird – shout ‘bird!’ – coffee It’s free but you have to book. Just a few places left. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/early-autu...
Join West Norwood's best known birder, Lev Parikian, for a special seasonal bird watching session in the cemetery

Here's an explanation I've yet to see. Lab in opposition still a pretty small operation, largely away from headlines. One objective: win power. They'd probably earmarked the summer to get up to speed on process ahead of an autumn election. Instead they've had to learn all that stuff *in* power.
I realise it's taken me nearly a week to reply but I think I disagree. There are examples of countries where people power was a big part of the move to peace eg N Ireland in the 1990s, Czech/Poland etc 1980s. I know that wasn't diaspora but so many in US/UK have family/friend connections in Israel.
The other moment that stuck with me was when he said "the problem with WW2 was that we Americans enjoyed it so much." Another shock for us in the audience, peaceniks to a fault. What he meant was these kids came from US, arrived in Europe and were treated like heroes everywhere they set foot.
I really recommend you re-read. I get something new every time. The harmoniums section moved me in a way that had never happened before. And by the end Malachi is... ok.
Yes it made it all the more baffling to me when I read in the acknowledgments of Time's Arrow Amis being coy about nicking the idea from KV. That moment in the talk where he was so rude to KV was such a shock. There was a gasp across the room. The audience was there for Kurt not Martin.
It was bizarre re-reading Sirens (probably about the tenth time) at the time that Musk took over Twitter. There were some amazingly spooky parallels.
Gasps of approval. (BTW I did this book thing and in the toss up I think I chose Slaughterhouse 5 instead). But here's a blog I wrote about Sirens and S5: davidjcohenauthor.com/2023/01/17/b...
