Same venue as last time? Can't promise but will try and make it.
Doesn't that require tacit admission that "Labour is absolutely right to blame us"?
Jenrick does win a free pass though in that his properly cast-iron serious sleaze scandals can now be airily dismissed as part of the "they're all at it" narrative.
You have just articulated a feeling I never realised I'd had.
You may mock me mercilessly for saying this (as would be your right) but it felt to me that there were parallels with the riots and Capitol Hill. Emboldened by an undemocratic govt that had previously sympathised with them, the far right thought they could smash the place up and face no consequences
Oh yes agree 100%. They just happen to be the ones that own all the megaphones.
He did but there was a mood of optimism when he came in. Also his handling of Diana's death perfectly captured the mood of the time. (I'm surprised that no one in Labour is praising Starmer for his similarly brilliant handling of the riots)
I mentioned in another thread that there's a rare moment of unity now between the anti-Starmerites on the left & right. In 97 Blair had about a year of good grace from the left + the Tories understood exactly why they were out of power and largely kept shtum.
Yes I was wondering about this - and as far back as 2022 I'd been asking a friend who was working with KS who their Alastair Campbell would be...
Sadly can't come this time but I highly recommend this. Also, if you have time, read Lev's brilliant book Light Rains Sometimes Fall to familiarise yourself with the place.
