The deal is a diplomatic no brainer. Rights to the air base for the immediate future are secured. And for any rw loons worrying about the distant future, probably worth checking the geography of DG. Climate change induced sea level rise is going to be a big issue for the T&C islands.

Just to be clear, the deal secures Diego Garcia for the US/UK, and the Americans are therefore pleased....but the Tories and James Cleverly are not, despite the last Tory government (with Cleverly as foreign secy) agreeing to hand over the Chagos to Mauritius. www.theguardian.com/world/2022/n...
