Well there was about twice as much coal on the grid then compared to now. One other issue is whether you look at short term marginal, long term marginal or average emissions. I’ve used average emissions for a number of reasons : blog.ucsusa.org/dave-reichmu...

Driving on Electricity Is Now Much Cleaner than Using a Gasoline Car

Emissions from driving the average EV in the US are equal to a hypothetical 93 MPG gasoline car.

Not sure why the analysis of EV tax credits uses the older electricity emission data (or maybe I’m misreading their methods)

This will be an interesting day to reflect on in the future. "Battery cells at $50/kWh means the technology to decarbonize most of road transport globally is already here, as opposed to in some future scenario." EVs are cheaper than ICE now. Today.

We no longer need to model for when cell prices drop far enough to decarbonize road transport. That day is here.

Did you know? Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, newly-announced running mate of Kamala Harris, was the keynote speaker at our Esri User Conference just last month??? Catch his super inspiring talk here: mediaspace.esri.com/media/t/1_d2...

Despite lots of press about EV sales “slowing”, California EV sales hit 25.7% of new car sales in Q2 24, and now 2 million sold to date. www.energy.ca.gov/data-reports...

They are supply constrained and you’ll find more availability in states that have adopted the ZEV regulations. There’s not an explicit list of states like with some past EVs, but a clear preference by Toyota to deliver them to markets where they generate credits.

Want to know more about how all the EV credits shake out and make (some) cars much more affordable? blog.ucsusa.org/dave-reichmu...
