The Problem of Piracy IV: An Interdisciplinary Conference on Plunder by Sea across the World from the Ancient to the Modern
University of Exeter, Exeter, UK, 19-20 June 2025

The fourth biennial conference will be co-hosted by the Centre for Maritime Historical Studies and will be held in person at the University of Exeter on 19-20 June 2025. We welcome proposals for both individual papers of twenty minutes and three- or four-paper panels. There is also the option for Postgraduate and Early Career Researchers to present shorter ten-minute papers as part of well-regarded ECR roundtables. There is the possibility of organising one or two entirely virtual panels for those participants who are prevented from travelling (please contact us for details).

Proposed papers should discuss any aspect of piracy or maritime predation occurring across the world from the ancient to the modern period.
