Straight into my veins: "Return to buttons! Touchscreens risk distraction, says watchdog. Prioritize safety, not just tech." interestingengineering.com/transportati...
This report brought to you by the No Shirt Sherlock department.
Fiddling with any kind of screen or button while driving is the road to perdition. Adjust that crap before you pull out of the driveway.
Manufacturers have been getting rid of buttons because it saves them money. Buttons are easier to use and safer.
I'm not saying they're wrong...but authority do space fairing persons have over road travel and legislation?
"According to KTLA, the Euro NCAP insists that specific features such as turn signals, hazard lights, and more must be controlled by physical buttons rather than touch screens for a vehicle to receive a 5-star rating" That's very reasonable, imo But doesn't say anything about infotainment screens
I saw an ad a while back for a new Aston Martin (IIRC) and, while I think I saw a screen in there, it was beautifully *slammed* with satisfying looking buttons and switches and such. So I think the auto industry is catching on a bit; prob will always have fancy screens now but BUTTONS COMING BACK!
Somewhere Click and Clack The Tappet Brothers are smiling down upon us
I'm worried what my next car will be, seeing more and more EVs go full TESLA and relocate all controls to a big screen :-( even Volvo who formerly were all about safety...
Yes! The UI on my BMW i3 is great without a touchscreen and I can still use CarPlay more efficiently and safely than my other car with touchscreen
The fact that I don’t have so much as simple volume knob is insane to me.
