Americans can expect to live shorter lives than people in Canada China France Germany Japan Norway U.K. And dozens of other countries. **So why isn’t it a political priority?** Our months-long investigation tried to get answers. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2023/...
No national strategy exists to reverse a years-long slide that has left the United States trailing peer nations in life expectancy.
Because it would cost money to change things and companies do not want that, the American public is apprehensive about any change (positive or negative), and the American political system stopped reacting to the national concerns of the public like two decades ago.
I get a sense of this when I go back to the US. People don't look as healthy as they do here in Australia.
The reason for this is because healthcare is considered a benefit and something to strive for in the US. If it is a benefit it is something that can be used to control the workers. It also allows healthcare to be a for profit business. We are labor, not citizens.
cuz we're functionally a 3rd world country
Diet and not having easy access to semi-automatic weapons are factors, sure, but ... All those countries with longer life expectancies have one thing in common. Universal healthcare.
The Richest Americans live a decade longer than we do. They need us to keep their economy going. They don't need us to live as long as they do to get this done. They need our babies to grow to be supportive of their economy so that their babies just get to live a better life than they have.
Because citizen well-being has never been a value in our capitalist democratic republic 😐
Because 40% of our population is in a death cult
So you want pols to start telling voters that they should move more and eat their veggies? Yeah, good luck with that ;) I can hear the campaign gurus squirm
