That must’ve been such a hard decision to make! Consulting crystal balls, tea leaves and weather gods and it’s still probably felt like “oh geez, I hope I’m not wrong!”
Barring an enormous drop in temperature continuously for the next 3 weeks I can't see the lake freezing over deep enough to be safe, honestly.
