No reason to be defensive about CPUSA, every group has true and false claims surrounding them. I prefer to judge on the basis of what each chapter is like instead of always pointing at national orgs and or politics. Always think local.

For instance we could sit and be sour about Teamsters as a whole, but I wouldn't do that it's dumb. We have one of the most Militant Teamster locals based out of Louisville, Kentucky. They defied Hoffa, They continue to defy SOB and TDU.
