Somebody asked me "Who was the first gay Sword & Sorcery writer?" I had to meditate on that. I don't know every S&S writer, but basically nobody in the 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s was out of the closet, and S&S was a bit of a homophobic scene. So I think it's either Joanna Russ or Samuel R. Delany.

Which is so odd considering there are a plethora of half naked men along with the half naked women in those stories. Maybe the scene was made up of bisexuals?
