They've had this arrangement forever. He was mafia when he was a child, a "developer," "real estate tycoon," and casino owner. He used gangster money to build his big tower 20 blocks from the NY Times building 40 years ago. The artificial tension between Trump and the Times is profitable for both.
The one and only thing Trump was ever right about is that the media is the enemy of the people. He just didn't realize that it's because the media is always in the tank for him.
