1/13: At 2 AM, Holy Thursday morning, as a band plays a funeral march, 44 men of the confraternity of San Rocco at Ruvo di #Puglia#SettimanaSanta#SemanaSanta#HolyWeek

The brightly colored group of lifesize sculptures includes Nicodemus, Joseph of Arimathea, and St John carrying the dead Christ and followed by Mary, Mary Magdalen, Mary Salome, and Mary of Clopas

2/13: The small church was dedicated to San Rocco in 1503 in gratitude for deliverance from the plague and restored in 1645. The confraternity received a papal privilege in 1576. Today, it looks out on the large Piazza Matteotti where the procession starts.

The inscription of 1645 is on the architrave of the simple portal of the white limestone building. A statue of San Rocco is in the niche above.
The ample square dwarfs the two and three-storey buildings around it, including a towered 20th century church and the remains of the medieval castle.
