When did Rome begin claiming to have relics (and where?) of Stephen? I'm so used to medieval images of the two deacons Stephen and Lawrence, that I'm afraid I'll slip and tell students Stephen was a Roman deacon! Excellent discussion of S Stefano Rotondo and of relics in Noga-Banai, Sacred Stimulus.

that I don't know. The inventio of the relics in Jerusalem dates to 415 and they began to circulate soon after that. Augustine discusses it in City of God. From what I've been able to tell San Lorenzo is the main place they were deposited but I don't know when.
