I get that this is likely an effort to greenwash their image and I wish it was for something other than slop, but is it a good thing that these companies spend a bunch of money investing in power sources that have some potential rather than just buying back more stock or whatever these vampires do?

They're theoretically assigning hypothetical future money to hypothetical future nuclear reactors. It would be a good thing if they instead spent real now money on real now clean energy (solar panels and batteries, because there's a convenient fusion reactor in the sky).
