Most artist will just make things too dark or overly bright when starting off and learning to hit a nice middle ground takes years and always worth trying again if only to see what will happen and super easy time wise to do.

in my case it's a matter of seeing my old stuff, cringing, and then trying to improve on the original shape, details, all that... there's a lot to be improved XD
