It's okitty, Spy x Family edition. If you're wondering about what I am or am not noticing on Bluesky, I'm -only- reading my pretty jewelry feed while I deal with health and other stuff; thanks for understanding.
Yep. You will sometimes see Lee, Yi, etc. for "I" ์ด. *Name* romanizations are often either kinda random or designed to be easier for (usually) English-speakers to approximate rather than going by any of the extant actual romanization systems.
It's the same family/clan name, yes, although I'm sure there's no useful relation! My father's family is something something plum ์ด branch (ๆ) out of Seoul. ...waitasec, the admiral is ๆ่่ฃ?! ...my parents never tell me anything!!! XD
Likelier is imperials using hanja and clanners using Hangeul or v.v. but that'd be tough in English. My experience is (usually white American) dumbasses complain if you put in too much linguistic context and other dumbasses complain about too little based on 0.8 years of kdrama exposure, so whatevs.
In MOONSTORM I indicated Imperial vs. clanner names via spacing - this wouldn't exist in today's Hangeul, but in Space Hangeul, who knows. Also made it easier for the reader to differentiate since the book's written in English anyway.
Names are always run together, e.g. ์ด์คํ (i-yun-ha or Lee [1] Yoon Ha). However, particles attach *after* nouns (etc), and my mom observes spacing rules have changed over time! [1] "I" looks silly as a name in English so my dad went with Lee, ensuring I would be shelved next to Ann Leckie. :3
Ah, sorry; my personal name is Yoon+Ha, the sibling *syllable* in the personal name is Yoon. I killed off Ha Yoon in Moonstorm because I thought it would be hilarious. :) I mean, killing characters is one of life's great writer pleasures. :)
Oh gosh, hope it goes well for y'all! Yours in calendrical heresy, YHL :)
Characters: Rat Trap, Dr. Elektra, Jimmy, and Jedao. :)
I want y'all to know I RAN to the site in the midst of Starfinder. XD
