More than 800 veterans who were dishonorably discharged due to Don't Ask Don't Tell policies will have their status upgraded to "honorable" automatically, allowing them to access veteran's benefits. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Openly gay Americans were not allowed to serve their country under the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' law.
That’s amazing news! Here! Here! Justice for all!!
🙏🏻thank you to our soldiers for helping protect us, and who can can now receive what was contractually promised when they enlisted 🙌
Overdue.
Basically, all veterans should get VA benefits. Most discharges less than honorable and above criminal are... veterans who should be upgraded.
Bout fuckin' time.
Previously, the process was extremely onerous and required hiring a lawyer. The Pentagon has revised that policy and is now automatically granting the honorable status for those vets discharged under that policy. This means healthcare access, tuition assistance, and help with housing.
It is legit embarrassing how recent dumbass don’t tell was. We have the same gaslighting about how homophobia is fixed, just like racism.
They should be able to get back pay, but at least it's a start.
