I just published this piece with polling data about how many voters seem to hate the things Trump wants to do, but they just don't believe he'll actually do them: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

It's not just Trump voters who believe this which is part of the problem

Polling in the 2000 election showed voters - Preferred Gore's policies - But supporteded Bush, bc they found him more trustworthy People planned to vote for the candidate they trusted to do things they didn't want, instead of the candidate they didn't trust to do things they want. 🙄

I guess his lying benefits him in many ways

This problem has existed for awhile - voters like Dem policies but they want Republicans to enact them. It's maddening.

This is my biggest worry: Rs or independents who dislike Trump but vote for him anyway because they don't take his threats/promises seriously.

They are wrong.

it's so funny to be seeing the exact same headlines 8 years later after a full trump term. IMO they're just fucking lying, ain't no way they're actually that fucking stupid.

What would happen if journalists took him seriously, and talked about his plans like they were as real as they treat Harris's plans?

I understand where they're coming from, after all he built the wall and Mexico paid for it
