I know that may sound like gatekeeping. I'm not trying to be a snob about the word. Everyone can study history. The genealogists, the buffs, my Dad laboriously working his way through biographies of the presidents—that's doing history, and more power to them. I just need the gate for cosplay Nazis.

This comment has sharply reminded me of the dieselpunk cosplay/larp/fantasy community, and i haven't glanced at it in a decade, but they used to have all KINDS of issues with actual Nazis cloaking themselves in the community and I'm not sure if they ever weeded them out or just eventually shrugged
