My next big theory of everything is going to be that people notice that things just don’t feel as nice as they used to & conclude that something (social media/capitalism/feminism/vaccines/the drinking water) isn’t right about the world when it’s literally just their own aging.
This is going to be another problem with aging societies.
I want some survey data on when ppl generally switch from "cant wait to get older!" to "I wish I was younger", I really have very few ways in which I long for the old days...
I was *just* looking at this and thinking that as the world keeps getting better we’re getting more used to it and hate any slight deviations so it just feels like it’s getting worse😂
Plus there’s that thing where people compare themselves to their parents, but then (1) they probably have little idea of what their parents were actually going through and (2) parents are a biased sample of earlier cohorts (they did reproduce, after all).
Plus the things that objectively *are* worse like climate change, don't feel that bad to most people in north Europe/US/Ca because we're both dealing with the worst droughts and floods and just getting milder winters.
Reminds me of those surveys showing that everyone thinks the best music is the music that was around when they were a teenager…
