Americans are learning about an offer from 2002 and suddenly feeling like they're smart
They won't return home until the war in Gaza ends, and the war in Gaza won't end until the Israelis agree to the permanent withdrawal of its forces from the territory which it does not have any right to, and the Israelis won't agree to this until the Americans force them.
All my facetiousness put aside for a moment, the Israelis are seriously mistaken if they think they'll successfully decouple the war on Gaza from the war on Lebanon. The assassination of Nasrallah is likely to do the opposite of what the Israelis want. The residents of the north won't return home.
Professional race scientist Jake Tapper is on day 8 of throwing a tantrum because he was caught spreading libel against the only Palestinian in Congress
And I've no sympathy whatsoever for the flailing from the USG, which has only made its bed by devoting itself to this virulently ideological opposition to Palestinian statehood. So many things would be simpler, truly, if the U.S. abandoned this futile and stupid effort.
Until, and only until, the U.S. adopts an entirely new logic and approach to Palestine, we will continue to subsume ourselves into this quagmire.
James and I will just disagree but the fact really is that the US simply is in alignment with Israel on the central issue at the core of the conflict, which is the total negation of Palestine as a national and political entity. The U.S. says one thing, does another. The U.S. wants Palestine gone.
The good news is that the Biden administration has successfully quarantined the war to only Gaza and is just on the cusp of securing a normalization deal between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
