Sorry to keep banging on about this, @rcolesworthy.bsky.social, but of course there are so many "others" historical left out of the Nobel circuit. Global South writers, for example.

I'm a bit tired of the shaming the goes around (and we internalize all the time) about things like this, that's all. And you're a professional reader! Also, if what I see online is correct, 62 women (categories, etc.) have received a Nobel out of 952 awards; 17 women out of 119 in literature.

Not to sound pretentious or whatever, but why let the Nobel selection (no arbiter of culture in my book) make you feel underread? How much stuff is out there? How many women (or non cis-het men) have got it? I've no doubt you're well-read, not necessarily the one celebrated by the Nobel industry!

... but about a bad-faith invitation to the capitalist "first world." This is such a deceitful mixing of historical metaphors. Hayden White's work lives on.
