I get the intent but calling “expressive platformers” their own genre feels really backwards in the same video arguing that linear and sandbox games are not different genres. As pointed out in the video games can range from different levels of expressiveness regardless of linearity or openness.

I also think we need a better term for it because calling games “not expressive” just sounds like a criticism and not a definition. And despite more expressive platformers clearly being the more popular games there are still people who don’t need tons of expression to enjoy a platformer.
