Finished reading Bindi by Kirli Saunders. A beautifully written children’s book about a year in the life of 11-year-old girl Bindi, told in a series of poetic vignettes. Gently funny, full of warmth and tenderness, woven with moments of profound emotional power. 1/3 💙📚👍🏼 #KidLit#DiverseBooks 📚🌏
Dub Leffler’s illustrations are a wonderful companion to the prose, the richly detailed, earthy style reminiscent of soft charcoal and pencils. I loved seeing Gundungurra words throughout the story, and kept the glossary bookmarked for easy reference. Another excellent book by Kirli Saunders. 3/3
Family, friends, school, and Country fill Bindi’s world, and her story vividly evokes life in a small Australian town on Gundungurra Country. Her day-to-day joys are starkly contrasted with the intensity of the climate crisis, made all the more impactful when seen through the eyes of a child. 2/3
