Started my MA in Naval History this month. Talk about jumping in the deep end, I left school in 2004 for some GSCEs. Day spent ticking off some of the my reading lists for next week sessions. #MatureStudent#NavalHistory

First part of my 1805 signal flags arrived yesterday. Size 10 which are that same size as currently used in VICTORY for her Trafalgar hoist every year.

Hoisting "Nelson's Signal" from Implacable on Trafalgar Day 1943. She was used as a signal school during her last year's of service.

Spending my evening reading logs and checking signals. All pretty standard at the moment. Trent (36) to Arethusa (38) Signal - 196 - "Take the guard for the next 24 hours" Trent (36) to Arethusa (38) Signal - 216 "A Midshipman to take orders"

One for fellow Aubrey–Maturin fans. Captain log for the Horrible old Leopard.

I think so trial and error at the moment 😁

It's amazing to literally flick through history. Names that are all hyped up today and just casually there as they were every day people/objects living their lives. Nelson, Collingwood, Pellew, Victory, Temeraire,Thunderer
