It has been my experience that some people who spread false claims about the science on social media do so in good faith and also express delusions that suggest they're suffering from mental illness.

Of course that's an armchair diagnosis and "mental illness" is a blanket term, which fails to capture the full continuum of suffering from manageable mood disorders to full psychosis. Apologies for being sloppy!
