Gifted link to my piece in the NY Times about Trump's plausible plan to convert the administrative state into the authoritarian state. 1. More MAGA appointees 2. Gut civil service protections 3. Hire govt lawyers who will enable Trump's authoritarian tendencies www.nytimes.com/2023/11/27/o...
We should all be paying careful attention to the former president’s plans for a second term.
Thank you for writing this, sharing your experience and knowledge and for gifting your article. I'm really glad your article is the NY Times. The more minds that read your words, the better prepared voters will be. Pointing out DeSantis' macabre promise gave me chills anew.
And yet there’s still handwringing over voting for Biden. I do not get it. Yes, his track record in _some_ areas is not good - what very many do not seem to realize: It will be WAY worse in _many_ areas under Trump.
Makes sense if someone, say a guy like you, that understandably puts the state at the center of their life, doesn't want change. For the rest of us, a bunch of fuckery in DC will make little impact on our lives and in fact probably help by keeping those losers focused on beating up each other.
Nice article. No mention of the “authoritarian” stuff in the header? Or even the subhead? VERY sly NYT!
Who wrote your headline? It spins this as pro-Trump by using his scare name for the civil service. You should ask for "Deep State" to be changed to US civil service.
Hey Don, I'm curious: have you written anything on what an ideal civil service reform *legislative* package would be, if we ever got a Congress and president that would consider it?
The writing has been on the wall for awhile, particularly gutting the civil service. Meanwhile the Democrats did nothing to prevent this while they still had both houses of Congress. Gotta focus on kitchen table issues. 🙄
Did you choose that headline? Doesn't seem to capture the gravity of the situation.
A fantastic piece, thank you for sharing. Do you mind if I show some others?
This is fucking scary.
