Again and again, people with public-facing and public-serving roles that rely on some connection to the truth are being put under threat by a political movement that cares little for either the public interest or the truth.

There’s a presidential candidate who thrives on misinformation. It seems a presidential low bar to try to counter misinformation rather than feed it. But here we are, and the old guy in the race has never shown interest in genuinely doing what’s right, even before showing cognitive decline.

Exactly this. And pretty soon the best of them are going to decide it just isn’t worth the grief and not do those jobs anymore. We can’t put this toothpaste back in the tube, and it’s terrifying.
