Ann Arbor’s farmers market has wooden money! You buy multiple tokens from the organizers, then use them at stands to reduce credit card fees for individual vendors.
they do this with the EBT program in Tacoma, WA... i always loved those little tokens
and you get your change in toothpicks.
they do that here too and accept ebt! good stuff
At our local farmer’s market I think they use that to also support SNAP/WIC purchasing
oh that is a grand idea!
Amazing idea
Our market in Baltimore does this as well. Some vendors take cards but there is a stand for tokens. www.32ndfm.org
I've also seen festivals use tokens to make sure the organizers get a percentage of the sales.
They do this as our famers market in Harrisonburg, VA! Market Tokens.
Our market does this and I never connected it to credit card fees. They have been doing it for 20 years though. Maybe SNAP and other assistance programs were the original intention and this is a happy by product.
