The Physical Processes in Natural Waters (PPNW) meeting will be held at Queen’s University in Ontario in July 2025. Any one interested in how mixing of stratification influences bio geochemical processes in lakes and reservoirs is invited! 💧🌊 ppnw2025.smithengineering.queensu.ca

As an editor, I help people say what they mean--and not say what they don’t mean. Here are some common not-quite-right words or expressions that I often see. This is not to embarrass anybody--I've made many of these mistakes myself. Please share your favorite fixes at the end of the thread. (1/n)

On a walk with my son he shows me a beetle from a family I had never seen before that he found while looking for slim moods. Ischalia vancouverensis from the family Ischaliidae. (I found zero new slimemolds for him in return!)

really appreciate having you here, and hope you maintain a presence, since I don't do Threads. Sorry to see that CBC in general hasn't caught on to posting here - it would help increase engagement, I think.

There's a lot of dialogue about Bluesky being a progressive echo chamber or whatever. But to me, a reporter who's neither racist nor insane, it's currently the best Twitter replacement because Twitter serves me nonstop racist and insane stuff and Threads won't do breaking news. Truly that simple.

We're seeing news of 1 in a 1000 year rainfall events, and of rivers reaching record height from Helene For a while, something has worried me about estimates of flood and precipitation return levels in the South and Southeast US, and (for once) it's not climate change. 1/
