I wonder if the composition ideas would stick a little better if they were actualized in some way, e.g. Hammering it out on keys once or twice/playing it on a guitar

For me? Probably not, I'm not a good enough player. But I do aspire to play more often and more regularly. I've read that Tom Petty would play a riff or chord sequence he liked all day. Could drive his housemates crazy.
