I am very satisfied when I can see the meaning of a kanji from its radicals like 串 or 休 or 聞 (Food on a stick, person leaning against a tree, ear under a gate) 漆 is like this! Tree on top with water underneath a roof, like dripping. These are easy for me to remember! 卵 is not like this!
Kanji are very interesting. It's wonderful to infer meaning from radicals. Since cultural practices have changed significantly since ancient China when kanji were created, there are occasionally origins that are hard to believe.
