i love watching americans discovering that people in europe manage to be racist on a far more diverse selection of motives than simply whether they would class the other ethnicity under the umbrella term "white". it's a real "sweet summer child" moment
Mercifully I can't remember why, but I once watched a European user get dogpiled (rightly) and they unironically typed out the words, "It's hilarious you guys are calling me 'racist' when I'm not even American." Just truly an amazing take.
makes me proud to be european we even get to be racist with people who look exactly the same as us
My favourite set of replies was when the Diane Abbott 'Travellers, Irish people and Jews don't experience racism' story was happening, I would get loads of well-meaning emails from our US readers which would go 'but Stephen, I don't think you understand: there ARE only two races'.
Balkan shitposting forums are top-tier.
Imagine if you could show those people what Chinese discourse about *the entirety of non-Han Chinese Asia* is like behind the great firewall...
British people will unironically list Norwegians among the "swathy races"
It's also very fun watching us learn about Asian racism.
I remember when John Oliver was on assignment in Australia for The Daily Show. (Something to do with a precipitous decline in public and domestic shootings because reasons.) Oliver was taken back with 'specific' racism particularly the animus of some towards Lebanese Australians.
learning about inter-Italian prejudice was wild
European: "We don't really practice racism in Europe, maybe some dad jokes haha" Also European: *notices a Romani person standing at the same bus stop*
