Thank you, @ojika.bsky.social, for sharing some of the Duchess of Enjoying's delightful tea with me.👸🏻🍵🍵🐺 This readily available milk tea hit the spot on the hot days in Japan. We got a bit hooked on it, and Ojika even imported a case to enjoy at home. (See alt-text for more detail.)

A bottle of Kirin's milk tea imported from Japan.

Ojika and I got mildly hooked on this stuff during our trip to Japan. It's a cheap offering in most convenience stores and some vending machines that really hit the spot on the hot days.

Japanese marketing often ignores English sentence/word layout in favor of looking fancy with a bit of foreign language on their packaging. The label reads, "The English custom of enjoying afternoon tea was introduced by the Duchess of Bedford." However, because they jammed a picture in the middle of the sentence, it instead looks like it reads as, "The English custom afternoon tea by the Duchess of enjoying was introduced of Bedford.

So we've taken to thanking the Duchess of Enjoying for her delightful tea.

I'm no great writer, but I really enjoyed adding extra flavor in the alt-text of the pics from Japan. My favorite alt-texts were where I got to share a bit of culture or history, and you can expect me to continue doing that. 🖼️📝🐺📚

This little guy followed me across the ocean from a gashapon capsule. I brought him home because he reminded me of the fox souls in Tunic. He'll guide you to a place where you can safely watch me face the boss gauntlet this Wednesday night.⚔️ 🎮 www.twitch.tv/dozyjinro

A clear fox figurine with orange-tinted ears, paws, and tail. It's holding a lantern shaped like a hōzuki (Scientific Name: Alkekengi officinarum).

This nightshade plant is also known as the Japanese Lantern or Chinese Lantern because its fruit is encased in a bright orange/red, papery pod that looks like a paper lantern. They're given as offerings during Japan's Bon festival to guide the souls of the dead.

Manufacturer's name for figurine: Cyber Carpenter Tōko

Getting back into US hours and US routine.😩 I'll do a "Just Chatting" stream tomorrow night to yammer about my experiences in Japan (Thursday at 8 PM EDT). Then we'll get back to being a sword-swinging fox next week in the usual time slot. Can't wait to see you tomorrow!🩵

Home, unpacked, showered, and had a long nap. I tried to put off the sleep part, but my body made the decision for me. I definitely missed my own bed.

The culture shock started immediately upon leaving the plane in Chicago. I wonder if I can be deported back to Japan. 🤔 Two more hours until I can board my flight back to my forest. I'm pretty sure I'll unpack, shower, then have several naps as soon as I'm in my den.

Waiting at the gate for my flight home. I had a great time wandering Honshu's southern coast with a red panda and a shika. Saw lots of cool things (the heat wave wasn't one of them, lol). Spots in Hiroshima triggered memories of my time in Okinawa. I hope to visit Japan again.

Today, we wandered the streets of Yokohama, and into Chinatown. There were lots of restaurants and crowds of people in Chinatown, though most of the shops were buns, skewered fruit, and/or palm readings. The architecture of the gates and temples were really cool to see.

Standing on the Ichino Bridge in Yokohama looking westward down one of the canals branching off of the Katabiragawa. Japan's cities are built right up to the river banks, so the rivers are turned into canals in the built up areas. I really enjoy seeing some of Nature in cities, and waterways are among my favorites.
This is Enpei Mon: the west gate for Yokohama's Chinatown. There are similar gates at the entrances corresponding to the other cardinal directions. It's a pity the traffic signal, signs, and power lines obfuscate the gate some. The gates are very ornate, and there's so much to see on them.
This is the Mazu Miao Taoist temple in Yokohama's Chinatown. You can purchase gold paper and large incense sticks in this temple's plaza that you can then take inside the temple to light for praying to the deities at the five stations inside. This temple is dedicated to Mazu, one of the highest ranking Taoist deities who's referred to as the Heavenly Mother and goddess of the sea. Most prayers to her are for protection during traveling or from natural disasters.
Standing on the Utsumi Bridge in Yokohama looking south down one of the canals branching off of the Katabiragawa. I like the lights of cities at night, and having them reflect off the water makes it that much better. This was about a block away from our hotel.
