One of the writers on The Simpsons (can’t remember which) said “it’s easier to rewrite something bad than to write something good” and I found that very freeing.

That’s a way of thinking about, sure. I have tons of unfinished songs, which if I had to play in public, would be bad. But one day I could turn a phrase, fix a melody, write a bridge or better first verse — it can happen fifty-eight different ways — and be happy in a moment.
