Rewatched BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974): So goddamn creepy and disturbing. Has one of the best endings in horror movie history. Additionally, it can be very very funny (without diluting the horror). One of my all time favorites

Saw CAUGHT BY THE TIDES at NYFF: Incredible. Enthralling and a little disorienting. Was absolutely gutted by the last section. It also flies by and by the end I was a little bummed. Could have watched for another couple hours

When it comes to horror movie monsters, vampires are more versatile but I still prefer zombies. Few things more viscerally satisfying than watching a sequence in which a huge mass of zombies overwhelm and eat a group of humans.

God THE FOG is so great. Top 5 Carpenter for me.

Despite all the negative reactions I was still surprised by how much of a misfire JOKER 2 is. And even though I intentionally spoiled the ending for myself, I was still surprised by how baffling stupid and anticlimactic it is.

Pretty much the whole ensemble is great but William Sanderson as E.B. Farnum is my fav DEADWOOD character. Trying so hard to appear smart and sophisticated. Always wanting to be included. He’s so fucking funny but is also so endearing

Do yourself a favor and watch CISCO PIKE, a movie built entirely around Kris Kristofferson’s shaggy charm. And then watch PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID, his best movie. Hell of a screen presence. RIP.

ZOMBI 3 (1988): not as hypnotic and creepy as ZOMBI or CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD but action packed and full of goopy makeup/practical effects. Zombies lunging out from nowhere, jumping down from ceilings, oozing zombie pimples, zombie birds. An all time opening scene. So much fun!

One of my main takeaways from watching all these Johnnie To movies is that Lam Suet and Simon Yam should show up in all movies.

I finally read Lonesome Dove and it’s one of the best books I’ve read. The way it so effortlessly switches between laid back and funny, harrowing, unbearably sad, and so warm, sometimes over the course of a single chapter. Beautiful work.
